Strathcona Park

The "fam" spent the past week hiding out, camping & climbing in the majestic mountains of Strathcona Park with some (recently married!) friends. We set up a wonderful base camp, complete with a screen room, a lovingly maintained pit toilet & a portable BBQ grill. We were lucky to be situated next to a clear and extremely cold river as by the time Tuesday rolled around the thermometer climbed into the high 30's (that's "stinkin' hot" for all you folks south of the border) - it even hit 40 degrees by mid-week! Ouch. It honestly felt like the Arizona desert in August. Quite unusual...

Papa, although quite rusty, was quite happy to be back on the rock again and it didn't take too long to find his long-neglected rhythm again. Miki enjoyed hanging out at the base, lounging in the shade with Mama and watching all those strange people walking vertically.

We saw a rather large black bear foraging by the side of the road one afternoon. Needless to say it didn't please Ericka all that much that our tent was pitched just a few miles down the road. Snow still covered the peaks in the park & offered some fantastic views set against a blindingly blue sky. The area was rather new to us and we vowed to return soon. Hopefully, someday we thought, we'd be able to share this park with some of our family members. Any takers?
