Wag the dog

Miki just figured out the wonders of a leash and how to take Rope for a walk.

And yes, I know, it's sunny in the photos yet Miki is bundled up in a snow suit. Trust me, it was a frigid day.

Blue Heron Park

Miki woke up from her late morning nap a few days ago and went down the road a bit with Mama to Blue Heron Park to have a sunny afternoon picnic.

It was low tide when they arrived and Miki, clad in her new gum boots that actually fit her, enjoyed splashing about the tide pools, picking up seaweed and looking at crabs.

According to Ericka the park was empty, save for the 2 of them and the view east towards the coast mountain range was breathtaking.

Ballerina Part I

One morning this past week, after I had left for work, Miki decided that she wanted to don her ballet "costume". She enjoys wearing the tutu and on warmer days, the ballet slippers.

Ill-knowledged about the world of ballet I may be, however, I can't imagine for the life of me that there are many "sofa performances" out there.

"Le Upholsterycracker Suite", anyone?

Screened In

These photos were taken by me outside looking in thru our screen door. The somewhat "hazy" effect is interesting. As Ericka noted, the pictures feel like they've "captured an everyday routine".

Tea Time

We actually found a few minutes this past weekend to sit down at the dining room table and bask in the sun over a pot of jasmine flower tea. It's really quite amazing how, as relatively new parents, we find ourselves truly enjoying even the briefest of "down time" and realizing how much we used to take those moments for granted.

Here are a few photos of our family afternoon tea.

April showers bring...

...a foot of snow?! Yes, it snowed here this past weekend. At 6:00a.m. on Saturday I woke up to start a fire, noticed the power was out and then noticed a foot of snow on the ground. And this was April 19th! The snow was wet and heavy and didn't let up until about 5:00 p.m. A large (slightly rotted) Maple on the corner of our property was brought down because of the weight and while Mama & Miki surveyed for other damage, I grabbed the chainsaw and set to work trying to clear up the destruction.

It was all the more shocking and surprising because neither of us had heard a weather forecast that day. Nonetheless, we had a great time and Miki absolutely loved it.

Chairs

The light was just too good to pass up a few days ago so I took a few random shots of Miki. It's been a very slow start to spring on the Island; even though we've had some clear sunny days the air has been very frigid. The woodstove is still in use, which is fine by us, but the woodpile is shrinking...

1st Haircut

Not sure what to do about Miki's growing hair, we took her to a kid-friendly hairdressing shop last week. The hairdresser convinced us to keep letting it grow because the annoying-in-her-eyes stage was almost finished. Papa got a haircut, too.
